Preparing Students to Face Global Competition, Swiss German University Sends Students Intern to Europe
For more than a decade, Swiss German University (SGU) has sent more than 2,600 students to Europe for internship. On Monday, 28 January 2019, SGU held an event titled SGU Goes to Europe 2019 at H. Usmar Ismail Film Center Building. SGU Goes to Europe 2019 is a farewell event for 123 students who will begin their journey to study in two countries that have collaborated directly with SGU, namely Germany and Switzerland, for the next 1 semester.
“Since it was founded, SGU has been fully committed to producing the next generations who are not only has superior knowledge and abilities, but also has strong character and international experience through SGU’s unique internship program which must be held in semester 3 in Indonesia and 6th semester in Europe,” said the SGU Rector, Dr. rer. nat. Filiana Santoso.
In preparing students to face global competition, SGU gained the trust and support from partners of Educational and non-Educational institutions, both domestic and foreign, such as the German and Swiss Governments, DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst), Fachhochschule Südwestfalen Germany, Ernst-Abbe-Hochschule Jena Germany, IMI (International Management Institute) Switzerland and SGU partner institutions and companies in Europe. Also attending the event were representatives from the German Embassy for Indonesia, Mr. Joerg Kinnen – Head of the Cultural and Press Section; representative from the Swiss Embassy to Indonesia, Mr. Ralph Stamm – Second Secretary of the Embassy; Thomas Zettler – Director of DAAD; industrial partners, partners of educational institutions, and parents of students who will depart for Europe.
Through this internship program to Europe, students are expected to be able to absorb knowledge, skills, lessons, and experience while studying and working internships in Europe so that when they return to Indonesia they will become young people who have international insight and can make the Indonesian nation’s name on the global stage.
