On 24th March 2016, 54 students from the 4th semester Business Administration Department of Swiss German University went on a study excursion to Topi Bambu Foundation – Akademi Bambu Nusantara in BSD, Tangerang. The study excursion program was part of the Business Development class which was led by the coordinator of the class, Moch. Riyadh Rizky Adam, S.T., M.S.M. The study excursion program aimed to sharpen the students’ spirit in building a business as well as to broaden their networking, knowledge, and experience. The study excursion program was welcomed by Mr. Agus Hasanudin, the CEO of Topi Bambu Foundation, and Mr. Mukoddas Syuhada, S.T., M.T., the Head of Building and Environment Management Working Unit in South Tangerang District, Banten.
As part of the Business Development class, the students need to create a business idea and then transform this idea into a Business Model Canvas and Business Plan. The study excursion program was very effective and useful to help students sharpen their own ideas. 7 entrepreneurs participated in the event as speakers and shared their knowledge and experience. Their businesses utilize Indonesian natural materials such as bamboo, rattan, and wood. This is in line with the Business Administration Department’s agenda on IBEF (International Business Administration Entrepreneurship Festival) 2016, an annual business event in the department. The topic for the upcoming event is “Local Strength, Global Creativity to Face ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Through Information and Communication Technology (ICT)”. The students were very excited to hear the success stories as well as the barriers and challenges faced by the entrepreneurs.
The study excursion program was really useful for the students. Through the seminar, talk show, and product workshop, the students learnt a lot. The students also shared their business ideas to the speakers, and asked for any suggestions and constructive feedback. All the suggestions and feedback they received will be used to revise and sharpen their business ideas.
